COUPLES

COUPLES is a portmanteau of six individual dramas for digital film, each a separate story involving two people with hoped-for, potential or established love or romance at its core. Applicants for each of the principal roles must be trained, skilled and experienced in theatre and/or film performance, as well as being reliable, collaborative, committed and punctual, and able to take direction well. Please make sure if applying that you are able to provide full details of your acting education and past experience in speaking roles, together with a showreel link, recent headshot/s and contact information (phone number, email address and residential address). An audition day will be announced to take place in Glasgow in mid/late April 2024. The rehearsal process will begin as soon as the play is cast and mutual arrangements can be made to begin. Suitable rehearsal space (tba) will be prepared and made available. Once the film is complete and edited it will be put forward as submission to several national (UK) and international film festivals for consideration. It is hoped that if successful in being accepted, that later there will be sufficient funds forthcoming - and after all verified production costs have been paid, equitably shared profits will be available for the actors and crew in and of the production.

1: BEING HONEST Steven and Kathy are seated at a table - and the conversation moves on to the emotive topic of trust between a couple. Roles: Steven, Kathy

2: DIZZY Lisa is alone at the table. She was due to meet Gary, but he's failed to appear. Lisa outpours her feelings aloud in this monologue. Eventually she gathers up her things and leaves. Shortly afterwards, Gary appears.  Roles: Lisa, Gary

3: LOGGERHEADS The McVays are a married couple whose relationship has become stale. A nostalgic conversation moves their feelings towards a mutual expression of love. Roles: Mr McVay, Mrs McVay

4: OUTDATED Gina, a schoolteacher, is awaiting the arrival of Alex who works in the city’s financial industry, her date whom she’d contacted online. An unexpected development concludes their assignation. Roles: Gina, Alex, male Waiter

5: MORE THAN ENOUGH Ben has been reluctantly forced into caring for his emotionally and mentally ill partner Maggie and his already fractured demeanour is about to reach breaking point. Roles: Ben, Maggie

6: REPERCUSSIONS Alice is behaving oddly as she sits staring into the middle distance. Her partner Kevin is aware that something is troubling her, so he attempts to find out what the problem is. The sequence shows high physical and facial emotion from both, conveying the mutual hurt that develops. Roles: Kevin, Alice
