A SENSE OF MEMORY

A room is set as it would be for an acting audition. There is a chair placed in the middle of the room, and another chair with a table is on the right side of the room. A flip-chart board is at the back of the room and on it, the scribbled words: “ARE YOU THE RIGHT FIT FOR THIS PART?” GEMMA, a woman, is there. She holds a folder in her arms. She takes a moment to observe the scene and then walks slowly to the chair, she spins it round so the chair faces the table, then she walks to the flip-chart and tears off the page with the writing on it. She then walks off. Moments later she returns with three small glasses filled with a clear liquid. She places them on the corner of the table and again leaves.
MARION enters with some excitement, carrying a backpack which she places against the wall. She makes a move for the chair and stops, ponders, goes back, and moves her bag marginally to the left, then walks to the centre of the room. She looks around, and, as the room is empty, she sits in the chair and waits for her audition. After thirty seconds or so, Gemma enters and ignores Marion who is now standing up. Gemma takes a seat at the table. Marion is feeling a little awkward - and the seemingly unorthodox proceedings begin.
GEMMA: Ideally aged 30+ to play a performing arts director
MARION: Ideally aged under 30 to play a novice actor
Auditions will be arranged as soon as possible and once cast, rehearsals will begin at least once per week and hopefully more later.
